RCMP say two high-end mountain bikes have been shipped back to their owners after they were recovered in Kamloops.
Mounties say a total of four bikes, valued around $30,000, were stolen from the back of an RV that was parked on River Street on Aug. 27 while a group of tourists slept inside.
“At the time, there wasn’t much information for police to go on,” RCMP Corporal Crystal Evelyn said, in a release Tuesday. “Officers had distributed the photos and serial numbers of the bikes, but there was no surveillance or suspect images available.”
Evelyn says one of those bikes was recovered on 10th Avenue after an officer patrolling the area on Oct. 22 spotted a woman next to the stolen bike. A second bike was found three days later, on Oct. 25, after police were told of a stolen bike in the Sahali Mall parking lot.
“Two more of the bikes remain outstanding, but these two were turned over to a friend of the tourists to ship back home – at least one of which will be taking the long journey to New Zealand,” Evelyn added.
“This is a great example of the benefits in contacting police and reporting stolen items, even if it seems like their recovery may be a long shot.”
