An ongoing bail scam making the rounds in the Kamloops area has cost some locals thousands of dollars.
Kamloops RCMP and the Tk’emlups Rural RCMP Detachment say they’ve gotten over 30 calls this week reporting someone attempting to bilk them out of money by claiming their relatives need money to pay for bail or legal fees connected to purported accidents their family members are involved in.
RCMP say the scammers are said to be using landlines for the fraud.
“The scammers are also posing as the family member and on numerous occasions have been so convincing the victims believe the person to be their loved one in danger,” said the RCMP in a release.
A female suspect has also been identified on two occasions picking up money.
“The female is identified as possibly Asian, petite, 5’2”, the passenger of a white SUV or car,” said Kamloops RCMP. “It is believed the female is not working alone.”

“Kamloops RCMP would like to remind the public, scammers are very believable but lawyers or any other professional agency will never request to meet to pick up cash in a parking lot, a restaurant, a park or at their residence.”
