The BC Coroners office has taken over the investigation of an accident near Westwold that took the life of a 34-year-old American rapper.
Jon James McMurray was walking on the wing of a small plane when he fell to his death last Saturday.
Coroners Spokesman Andy Watson says it was a tragic accident.
“You know anything that is high profile, you know like this, that is certainly out of the ordinary for us,” Watson said. “This is just in my just two years here.”
“Certainly this is the first type of incident of this nature.”
The Coroners Officer could make recommendations to prevent future deaths under similar circumstances.
“Either the investigating coroner can make recommendations in their report,” added Watson. “Or if there’s a public interest, the chief coroner may consider taking this to an inquest.”
However, Watson noted it would be premature at this point to speculate on whether an inquest will be held.
The plane and the pilot later landed safely in a farmers field.
