A cold February, and possibly a cold start to March as well.
Environment Canada’s early projections are for this cold temperature to last through to mid-March.
“Previously, we had been consistently forecasting a mild spring, but at this point, things have changed so much that now we’re seeing almost a closer to normal spring with a lot less confidence in that forecast,” said Meteorologist Carmen Hartt.
“At this point, we’re kinda just hoping for normal temperatures. It could go either way at this point.”
You can thank a high-pressure system for the colder temperatures over the BC Interior.
Hartt says that’s also the reason we’ve got less snow this winter.
“The low-pressure storms which are the ones that bring the snow and rain have been going along the coast, so yeah, we’ve had the cold temperatures along the coast with some precipitation that’s been falling as snow instead of rain which is more normal for a lot of areas even for late winter,” she noted.
February 2019 is so far on par to the be the fifth coldest February on record.
