Sun Peaks Resort is looking at another good ski season, but its unlikely to be third straight record breaking one.
That’s according to Sun Peaks Chief Marketing Officer Aidan Kelly, and he’s blaming the weather to a degree.
“We had a bit of a slower start in November and December and then we had an amazing Christmas and January, like our busiest ever,” he said, on the Woodford Show. “And then right at the end of January, we went into that big cold snap.”
“It hurt some skier visits for a little while – not from the destination markets, because they are already booked, but in the local market here some people were waiting for it to warm up.”
Kelly says they are expecting to see around 400,000 skiers this season, adding they had a good second half of February into early March at the resort.
“Spring break is nice and busy up there, so we’re having another really good year,” he added. “You know when you put those factors into the mix, it’s probably not going to shatter any massive records or anything, but we’re quite happy with how it’s all come together.”
In 2018, there were roughly 400,000 skiers who visited Sun Peaks, up slightly from the 390,000 in 2017, both of those seasons were record breaking.
And while the current season hasn’t wrapped up yet, Kelly says they are already looking ahead to the next one.
