While the MLA for Kamloops South welcomes the expansion of Valleyview Secondary, he notes it is not in and of itself going to solve the district’s capacity issues.
Todd Stone says there will be a celebration of the expansion announced Friday, but once it subsides, the work begins on lobbying government for capital funding for the district’s next priority ask.
“Starting on Monday, it’s time to focus on the next major priorities from a capital perspective,” Stone said. “We need a new school in Pineview Valley, we need an expansion at Westmount, and renovation at South Kam Secondary.”
“Peter [Milobar] and I will roll up our sleeves and continue to work with the school district, parents, and teachers to make sure that the government delivers on those next needed capital projects for our school system here.”
Stone says significant challenges remain in the Kamloops school system.
He calls the expansion of Valleyview Secondary, ‘a great start’ but parents and students in other jam packed schools also need their challenges addressed.
