With a Category 3 fire ban in place in the Cariboo Fire Centre, there are no plans just yet on a similar ban in the Kamloops Fire Centre.
“We do base it off of fire, weather, and danger ratings so it all just depends. It’s kind of weather dependent, it’s not a hard and fast date any more,” said BC Wildfire Service spokesperson Hannah Swift.
She is asking people to be very careful if they are doing any burning in the area.
“Just make sure that you have the people and the equipment ready in case something does happen,” she added. “But it’s just the Cariboo that has the Category 3 ban on right now, and the rest of the region it’s still open to that.”
While a couple of fires did flare up in the Kamloops Fire Centre yesterday, the conditions are also not too bad for the foreseeable future.
“For this week, we have more precipitation, so we anticipate the fire danger rating to stay pretty consistent at low to very low throughout the centre here,” Swift said.
That said, there have already been several human caused fires this season, including two big ones near Chase.
