A former mayoral candidate in Chase says she will be asking next week for the village to review its election bylaw.
Beverly Iglesias filed a lawsuit against the village because of the results of last fall’s municipal election, saying a dozen people voted in the election but didn’t live in Chase. That lawsuit was later withdrawn.
She finished third in the voting, while candidate David Lepsoe lost by 11 votes to Rod Crowe.
“We formed a delegation and met with MLA Todd Stone in February and we had a conversation of where to go from there. We then went to Minister Selina Robinson’s office, for the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, who then responded back to our letter.”
She says Minister Robinson recommended to bring the issue to municipal council and ask for specific changes to be made.
“We have several recommendations that council look to change the electoral bylaw, and put some things in place that will help us the next time so it won’t be so cumbersome.”
The village defended itself after Iglesias filed her lawsuit, saying all the proper protocols were followed during the municipal election.
