Plans for a new medical marijuana greenhouse in Logan Lake are back on track after a slight bump in the road.
MedFlora Pharmaceutical was hoping to break ground this spring, but Logan Lake CAO Randy Lambright says there were some changes in Health Canada requirements that caused a slight delay.
“Now they can start doing a lot more preparation in terms of coming together with technical data so as to supplement their current rezoning application, and then hold an open house,” he said. “All things being equal, if things are looking good in terms of mitigation and all those other things, we would then be bringing forward a report to council to authorize public hearing.”
Lambright said in speaking to the company, they were told by Health Canada to go ahead and secure a plot of land – which the company has already done at 184 Apex Drive.
The application is expected to come before council sometime this summer, and it’s expected to bring 100 full time jobs to Logan Lake when fully operational.
“We have to ensure that it’s meeting our recommendations and standards,” Lambright added. “It still has to go through the public hearing stage and council where they would then have a say in the matter.”
“I won’t say that’s its a slam dunk by any stretch of the imagination, but I would say that they are following the processes that they are supposed to be doing.”
The most recent designs shown to council outline the plans for two facilities at the same location – a 32,000 square foot medical marijuana greenhouse, and a 450,000 square foot medical plant facility.
