Two 21-year-old men have been charged after a Merritt Secondary School student was robbed on his way to school yesterday morning.
Miguel Domingo Albert and Jesse Patrick Kane are both from Merritt and both have been charged with robbery.
The charges come after a 16-year-old boy was robbed while walking to Merritt Secondary School just after 6 a.m. yesterday.
Police say the teen was going to school for a sports practice when he approached and threatened by two men. According to the Nicola Similkameen School District, his debit card was believed to be stolen.
SD 58 superintendent Steve McNiven says it’s not believed the robbery was targeted.
“In general, our kids get to-and-from school safely on a daily basis, and it’s just always good to remember that we’ve got some safety precautions that we can take place. And you know what, if students or parents are seeing something that’s concerning, I think another good message is to make sure that they’re reaching out. Either to the schools or to RCMP to let us know.”
The two men charged are expected to appear in Kamloops court today.
