A record turnout at this year’s CP Holiday Train in Kamloops, with nearly 6,000 pounds of food collected for the Kamloops Food Bank.
Executive Director Bernadette Siracky says that was in addition to around $50,000 in donations raised by a record number of people who gathered outside the Sandman Centre.
“CP created literal magic and the stars just lined up,” she said. “We had the perfect temperature, the perfect day and time and Kamloops showed up as it always does by the thousands. We were standing on the train and were just stunned to see the crowd and everybody was just sharing such positive energy.”
Country artists Terri Clark and Dallas Smith were part of this year’s event that rolled into the Tournament Capital on Sunday. It also made stops in Chase, Savona, and Ashcroft yesterday afternoon.
“When we put on a event, Kamloops shows up and they really play their part,” Siracky added. “People from CP mention every single year that we have not just one of the largest crowds, but one of the most involved crowds. People were singing along and they were clapping and they were just sharing positive energy right back to the train.”
Siracky is certain that Terri Clark and Dallas Smith played for longer than their allotted 30 minutes.
“I can’t be certain on that, but what I do know is that I certainly enjoyed the show,” she added.
Into its 21st year, the CP Holiday Train has raised $16 million and 4.5 million pounds of food for food banks across Canada.
Last year’s CP Holiday Train was another record with about 4,000 lbs of food donated to the Food Bank.
