In addition to closing city-owned playground equipment, the City of Kamloops is making a number of service changes to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Effective immediately, most city staff are working from home as the city shifts its workforce to minimal services. The Emergency Operations Centre is working with city managers and council to identify a staffing plan going forward.
As well, effective today, March 24, the Barnhartvale landfill will be closed, with the exception of diversion and yard waste. People are being asked to head to the Mission Flats Landfill where customers can either use their accounts, or credit and debit cards.
“All landfills with the exception of Barnhartvale are operating as usual,” said the city, in a statement.
These changes come in addition to facility closures that were announced last week, including City Hall which was closed last Wednesday.
“The Emergency Operations Centre is in constant contact with the Province, ensuring our decisions are in line with provincial direction and are in the best interests of our community,” said Mayor Ken Christian. “We understand how these measures effect our residents and how unnatural this all feels, but we need your cooperation.”
Further, if you rely on the bus, BC Transit is tentatively working to move to summer service hours as of April 1.
