A new board chair and vice-chair for the Kamloops-Thompson School District.
Rhonda Kershaw was acclaimed as the next chair of the board at a special meeting held on Monday night. She is replacing Kathleen Karpuk, who stepped down after accepting a new job with the BC Wildfire Service.
“I look forward to working with you all and thank you very much for the vote of confidence,” she said during the meeting. “We have a busy summer and fall ahead of us.”
Kershaw, who was serving as the Vice-Chair since 2018, is in her third term as trustee for the Barriere and Little Fort area of SD73.
Meghan Wade was elected as the new Vice-Chair as a result of Kershaw’s acclimation as chair, beating out fellow Heather Grieve who was also nominated for the role.
The pair will be in their roles until at least November 2.
Along with a new board chair, SD73 will also be getting a new superintendent, as Alison Sidow announcing her retirement last month at the end of August.
“I think that our coming months are really going to be a whirlwind, but our first and foremost priority is replacing our superintendent in the district,” Kershaw told NL News. “We’re currently working through that process and hope to be making some announcements in the near future.”
