After two days of near record temperatures in Kamloops, Environment Canada has lifted the heat warning for the area.
However, Meteorologist Doug Lundquist says it will still be hot for a couple more days with temperatures into the mid-30s before it cools down.
“What we have is a cold front coming through Thursday and Friday with thunderstorms likely Thursday and Friday with a cold front and more wind and cooler weather,” he said. “For Friday, we’ll probably see daytime highs down around 27 C to 28 C, which is our average high for this time of the year.”
Lundquist is hoping the cooler weather and rain will help on the wildfire front in the province, which has seen over 70 fires in the last two days, the majority believed to have been started by dry lightning.
“You know, I’m also looking forward to a bit of a cooler day so that I can get out in the middle of the afternoon instead of having to wait until the evening,” Lundquist said. “Its not the end of the world but definitely cooler into a little bit, Thursday into Friday.”
The BC Wildfire Service is urging people to be careful as it says eight of ten new wildfires across the Kamloops Fire Centre since yesterday are believed to be human caused.
