B.C.’s police watchdog says the injury suffered by a Kamloops woman while she was being disarmed by an RCMP officer in a Brocklehurst residential facility three weeks ago did not meet the threshold for serious harm under the Police Act.
The Chief Civilian Officer of the Independent Investigation Office, Ronald MacDonald says it means the investigation has been closed with no public report released.
The incident in question happened on Oct. 14 after police were called to a residential building in the 1800-block of Greenfield Avenue.
“When officers arrived at the woman’s unit, she answered the door while in possession of a weapon. An officer took the weapon from her and during that interaction, the woman sustained an injury,” said a statement from the IIO. “She was subsequently transported to the hospital for treatment.”
The police watchdog was notified about the incident on Oct. 23 after the police say learned the woman’s injuries were serious.
