
B.C. health officials are reporting 661 new cases of COVID-19 today, including 196 in Interior Health.
There are 5,791 active cases in the province, a decrease of 374 cases from yesterday’s update, with 1,536 of those cases in the Interior, down by 47 cases.
Of the active cases in the province, there are 288 people in hospital with COVID-19 (same as Tuesday) with 137 of those people in intensive care (down by three).
Fraser Health reported another 237 new cases today (1,744 active), with another 99 cases in Vancouver Coastal Health (1,037 active), 66 cases in Island Health (615 active), and 62 new cases in Northern Health (849 active). There was also one new case in a person who lives outside of Canada with 10 such cases active.
In the past 24 hours, there have been seven new deaths reported – three in Interior Health, and two each in Vancouver Coastal and Island Health – for an overall total of 1,873.
An outbreak at the Kamloops Seniors Village long-term care home remains at 19 cases – ten among residents and nine among staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.
Similarly, an outbreak at The Hamlets at Westsyde remains at five cases – three residents and two staff, while there are seven cases at the Nicola Meadows assisted living facility – four residents and three staff, with one death connected.
Data from the province shows there are now 86.1 per cent of people over the age of 12 (3,991,888) have gotten one dose of a COVID vaccine, while 78.6 per cent (3,644,716) are fully vaccinated. That is an increase of 6,729 first doses and 6,312 second doses.
Between Sept. 7 and 13, the government says people not fully vaccinated accounted for 76.5 per cent of new COVID cases. Between Aug. 31 and Sept. 13, they accounted for 87.3 per cent of hospitalizations.
