UPDATE – Kamloops RCMP say the Honda Civic mentioned below has been recovered.
ORIGINAL – A reminder from Kamloops RCMP to never leave your keys in your vehicle, as they say there were three idling vehicles stolen between Sunday and Tuesday of this week.
The first two vehicles were stolen from in front of the same Aberdeen business in the 1800-block of Hwy 5A – near Aberdeen Mall – on Sunday, Jan. 23, while the other was stolen outside a business in the 1000-block of Hillside Drive – near Wal-Mart – two days later.
In a statement, RCMP say one truck that was stolen has been recovered but the other two – a silver Honda Civic with Alberta plate BKX7049 and a black Audi with BC plate MB 011G – are still missing.
“Even if you’re close to your vehicle and can see it from where you are, when the keys are left in the ignition it presents an opportunity for thieves to quickly steal it,” Cpl. Dana Napier, of the Kamloops RCMP Crime Prevention Unit said. “Even if it’s locked, it takes a minute to smash a window and hop in.”
“If your house keys were on the same key ring, now you have to worry about the thief finding your address on the vehicle’s insurance papers and breaking into your home. “So along with having to deal with the trouble of having your vehicle stolen, now there are house locks to rekey and other possible spin-off expenses.”
Police say an unlocked vehicle with its keys inside is also considered to be an unsecure vehicle, an offence under the Motor Vehicle Act, S. 191 (2)(a).
If you see or have information related to pair of vehicles mentioned above, contact the Kamloops RCMP and reference file number 2022-2578 for the Audi, and 2022-2675 for the Civic.
