A 35-year-old Lillooet man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death a 25-year-old last week.
RCMP say Justin Ehlert is in custody pending a future court date. He was charged by the BC Prosecution Service on Saturday, March 19, though police only released the details this morning.
Last Tuesday, March 15, RCMP in Lillooet say they and Statlimx Tribal Police were called to the 600-block of Main Street in Lillooet, where they found a man with serious injuries who was being treated by paramedics. This man, Leeland Alexander, also from Lillooet, was taken to hospital where he succumbed to those injuries.
“Investigators from the ‘E’ Division Major Crime Unit (MCU) spent several days in Lillooet speaking to witnesses and gathering evidence in this investigation,” RCMP spokesperson, Sgt. Chris Manseau, said, in a statement. “Investigators are now announcing that a suspect has been arrested and since been charged.”
Last week, RCMP had said they believe the incident was an isolated one with no “elevated risk” to the public.
RCMP still say anyone with information who has not already spoken to police should contact the Lillooet RCMP at 250-256-4244.
