The BC Wildfire Service says the East Meadows Plateau wildfire, about 20 kilometres north of Kamloops is now being held.
Fire Information Officer, Shaelee Stearns, tells NL News the fire is an estimated 10 hectares in size.
“Being held indicates that that we don’t anticipate any further spread beyond the existing or pre-determined boundaries of the fire due to weather and suppression tactics by the crews,” Stearns said.
“Today, we’ll have 17 personnel on site who are assisted by two water tenders and they will also be receiving aerial support as needed throughout the day.”
Stearns says the lightning-caused fire was first reported to the Wildfire Service early in the afternoon on Wednesday of last week.
“Crews will definitely be attending it until we can change that status to under control,” Stearns added.
“When that will be, will definitely be dependent on the suppression tactics that go on, the changing weather that comes. There is no real timeline for that but crews will definitely just continue their suppression tactics today and work to really reinforce those guards they’ve established.”
The East Meadows Plateau Fire is not far from where the Watching Creek Fire broke out late last month. That fire is now under control.
