Kamloops RCMP say an Alberta man is facing impaired driving charges after yesterday’s semi crash that closed a portion of Columbia Street for the majority of the day.
Mounties did not identify the suspect but said in a statement Wednesday that he was released with a court date as part of the ongoing investigation.
The semi carrying other vehicles went off the road between 12th and 13th avenues around 4:20 a.m., Oct. 18, and ended up in the front-yard of a house. The driver fled the scene but was found soon after and arrested.
“The suspect was later released by police and given a court date in relation to Criminal Code driving offences, including impaired operation of a motor vehicle, with charge recommendations to follow,” RCMP Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, said.
“Although the suspect has received a court date to answer to the alleged offences, the investigational requirements are ongoing and police encourage anyone with information or video related to the incident to please reach out as soon as possible.”
There was no damage to any of the houses, however a number of vehicles that were parked along the street were damaged.
“Miraculously, no one was injured despite the damage that occurred in the area,” Evelyn said yesterday.
Mounties are asking for any witnesses or anyone with video footage to come forward and reference file 2022-37339.
The truck is gone, but some of the damage remains as of 10 pm Tuesday.
Traffic is moving down Columbia, but the morning commute *might* be interesting.#Kamloops RCMP told me they’re anticipating to have an update by tomorrow. @RadioNLNews pic.twitter.com/C55TiORBJQ
