The Kamloops Blazers have signed forward Lucas Benn to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
The 14-year-old cousin of NHLers Jamie and Jordie Benn was a seventh round pick of the Blazers in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.
The six-foot-four Cloverdale native had 34 points (12 goals and 24 assists) in 27 games with the St. George’s U15 Prep team during the 2022-23 season. He was also named to B.C.’s Male U16 team for the WHL Cup along alongside fellow Blazers prospect, Ty Bonkowski.
“We would like to welcome Lucas and his family to the Kamloops Blazers organization,” said General Manager / Head Coach, Shaun Clouston. “Lucas impressed us at training camp and we are excited to be a part of his development over the coming seasons.”
Benn is the fourth player 2008-born player to sign with the Blazers, joining defensemen Dryden Deobald and Kaden Meyer along with Bonkowski.
Benn will make his WHL preseason debut this Saturday, Sept. 16, when the Blazers play the Vancouver Giants in Maple Ridge.
