RCMP say a large police presence in the Barriere area last Friday was due to reports of a possible abduction.
In a statement Wednesday, Mounties say they were told about a woman who was possibly being held against her will at the Louis Creek area house of a man who is known to police.
RCMP Southeast District spokesperson Cpl. James Grandy says the woman was able to get out of the house and flee into the surrounding bush before police got to the area.
The woman was later found safe and sound by a police dog team.
Grandy says police were able to find the man at a nearby motel by using a monitoring device. He says the Southeast District Emergency Response Team was called in given the nature of the call and the history of the suspect.
The man, who was not identified by police, was arrested without incident and held on outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions. He is scheduled to appear later this week on other charges.
“The coordinated effort of several RCMP units were key in ensuring the safe resolution of this incident,” Grandy said.
“The effective use of resources such as the Police Dog Services and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team played an important role.”
