Kamloops RCMP executed two planned search warrant operations this week as investigators continue to probe what police have described as a targeted homicide in the city’s downtown core earlier this month.
A significant police presence was seen Tuesday in the 800 block of Surrey Avenue and the 800 block of McQueen Drive as officers carried out the warrants connected to the ongoing homicide investigation tied to the May 5 shooting death on Columbia Street.
In a news release issued Wednesday, May 13, RCMP said members of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team assisted local officers to ensure the warrants were executed safely and efficiently.
Few details about the searches have been released, and investigators have not confirmed whether any arrests were made or if evidence was seized during the operations.
The investigation stems from a fatal shooting reported in the early morning hours of May 5 in the 200-block of Columbia Street. Kamloops RCMP previously said officers responded to reports of gunfire between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. and later determined the incident was a homicide.
At the time, police indicated preliminary evidence suggested the shooting was targeted. Information about the victim has not been made public, though investigators said they had been in contact with the victim’s family.
RCMP continue to ask anyone who was in the downtown area during the time of the shooting — especially those with dash-camera footage — to contact investigators at 250-828-3000 and reference file number 2026-13670.
Police say no further information about the warrant operations will be released as the investigation remains active.
