As RCMP Southeast District Major Crimes investigators continue to probe the scene of last Thursday’s house fire at 905 Seymour Street, local Mounties say they have not been able to determine a cause of the blaze.
Kamloops Mounties say they were at an address in the 600-block of Seymour Street around 5 a.m. last Thursday, April 6, when they were alerted to the fire. Both police and firefighters have said there was no one inside the house at the time.
“A subsequent investigation conducted by police and fire investigators concluded the fire’s cause as undeterminable at this time,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said, in a statement Wednesday.
Major Crimes investigators returned to the scene the following day, April 7, though details about their operation have been few and far between.
Evelyn said Wednesday that the police presence was “unrelated to the fire investigation.”
“The fire investigation is ours (Kamloops) but the investigation related to the current police presence is not,” Evelyn told NL News, when asked for clarity.
“Currently, officers continue to secure the residence while members of the Southeast District Major Crime Unit advance a separate investigation associated to that address,” BC RCMP spokesperson Cpl. James Grandy, added in the Wednesday statement.
Mounties say they will not release any more details at this time, in a bid to protect the integrity of the investigation.
The Southeast District Major Crimes Unit is currently investigating a pair of Kamloops-area homicides, though its not clear if this police presence is related to either one.
They’re investigating the slaying of Peter Daniel Casimir, whose death is related to a bloody blue Ikea rug that was recently turned into the Barriere detachment and 18-year-old Jagraj Dhinsa, who was found dead in a parking lot on the Tk’emlúps reserve on Jan. 29, 2022.
Three other investigations – Jo-Anne Donovan, Shannon White, and Mohd Abdullah – are all Kamloops RCMP files, Evelyn said.
Those with information about the fire or the Major Crimes investigation are being told to the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 or the RCMP Tip Line at 1-877-987-8477.
