B.C.’s police watchdog says a motorcyclist who was seriously injured in a crash with a Kamloops RCMP vehicle just under two weeks ago has died.
In an update Thursday, Aug. 3, the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) says the unidentified man died of his injuries at Royal Inland Hospital on Tuesday, August 1.
The IIO says it was told by Kamloops RCMP that just before 11 p.m. on July 22, an officer responding to an unrelated incident parked and left their police vehicle in the westbound lanes of the Trans Canada near Holman Road.
“A short time later, there was a collision between a motorcycle, the parked police vehicle, and another stationary emergency vehicle,” the IIO said in its initial statement on July 27. “The rider of the motorcycle sustained serious injuries in the collision and was transported to the hospital for treatment.”
The IIO says its investigation remains active as it looks to determine what role – if any – police actions or inactions have played in the man’s death.
People with information are still being told to contact the IIO Witness Line at 1-855-446-8477 or via the online contact form.
