Kamloops’ first private cannabis store has been open for over a week, but the owner plans to keep fighting for a level playing field.
Chris Lyth alleges that the big banks weren’t willing to help him set up a business account.
He did bring up the issue with Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth last October, and says he will keep fighting the good fight.
“TD bank is actually the bank that’s working with the government cannabis store,” Lyth said. “I did find that quite unfair and not a level playing field.”
“I have spoken with some of the other applicants, who are hoping to open a retail location. Everyone one of them is facing the same issue.”
Lyth added he still believes it’s ‘criminal’ that Canadian banks don’t seem open to supporting the legal Canadian cannabis industry.
“This is Canada, they are doing their business here in Canada and they should be supporting legal Canadian businesses,” he added.
“So I will continue to speak on that subject.”
