Police in Barriere are investigating after $3,000 worth of deep cycle batteries were stolen from road safety signs on the Yellowhead Highway near McLure, where rock removal work is underway.
The theft was reported on May 22, and the people responsible forcibly opened the devices to get to the batteries.
It’s believed the robbery occurred the night before, on May 21.
Tampering with the road safety signs places motorists’ safety in jeopardy,” said Cpl. Rob Welsman. “Any assistance from the public in catching those responsible is appreciated.
Earlier this month, solar panels were stolen from four electronic message boards near Cherry Creek, but there’s no word if the two incidents are related.
