A weekend of streaks for the Kamloops Blazers.
One night after ending an 11-game losing streak against the Everett Silvertips, the Kamloops Blazers extended their win streak over the Kelowna Rockets to eight, with a 5-2 win at Prospera Place on Saturday night.
“Extremely pleased,” said Head Coach Shaun Clouston post game. “I thought the guys were energized and really dug in. It was a hard fought game.”
Martin Lang opened the scoring at 15:01 of the first period, but the game would be tied at 2-2 after 40 minutes. That’s after second period goals for the Rockets from Liam Kindree and Jake Poole, while Connor Zary extended his point streak to 14 games with his fifth goal of the season.
In the third period, it was all Blazers on the score sheet – Orrin Centazzo scored his fifth of the season, while Max Martin netted his first two as a Blazer – the second into the empty net to put the game beyond doubt.
“I thought our discipline was just okay, we have to work on that a little bit, but overall the compete was high, and the guys came back as hard as they could in the third,” added Clouston.
Zane Franklin wasn’t among the goals, but the Blazer captain had a pair of assists on the night.
Dylan Garand made 26 saves in his second straight start to take the win, while Roman Basran made 42 saves in a losing effort.
Through nine games, the Blazers sit third in the BC Division with 10 points, one behind the Rockets who are second with 11, and two behind the Vancouver Giants who lead the division with 12 points in 11 games.
The Blazers return to Sandman Centre for a Tuesday night game against the Swift Current Broncos on October 15.
Puck drop is at 7 p.m., with the pre-game show on Radio NL starting at 6:30 p.m.
