Kamloops RCMP have arrested three suspects believed to be involved in stealing vehicles in the area.
Corporal Jodi Shelkie did not elaborate on specifics, but says there have been an average of eight vehicle thefts per week in Kamloops since October.
“That’s about average for Kamloops,” she said. “We feel that is as with theft from vehicles with a few changes by owners, these numbers could come down significantly”
She says among other things, people should lock their vehicle and keep windows up, not leave vehicles unattended when warming up and put a lock on the steering wheel.
“Once vehicles are stolen, they pose a significant safety risk because when the police locate the stolen vehicle, occupants often go to great efforts to avoid apprehension, and they may be driving dangerously and putting the public at risk,” Shelkie noted.
“As well, stolen vehicles can be used to commit other offenses like robberies and drug related offenses.”
The warning comes after a dramatic getaway by a woman stealing a Lexus on the North Shore was caught on tape last week.
