
A man has been shot and killed after a standoff with police at a home in Lytton today.
Mounties say Lytton RCMP members were called to a home in the 1000-block of McIntyre Road in Lytton to a man reportedly in distress, who was said to have multiple firearms inside the home. Two other people were also in the home at the time.
No one was hurt after gunfire was reported inside the home just after police arrived, and the two people inside were evacuated safely some time later.
At about 2 p.m. police say a distraught man was shot and killed after an interaction with police.
RCMP say no one else was hurt in the incident.
The Independent Investigations Office is now investigating police actions in the fatal shooting.
Multiple reports had come in to NL News during the day from witnesses, who saw a convoy of police vehicles in the Cache Creek area. Several neighbors in Lytton also posted on social media about the heavy police presence, which included the Emergency Response Team and a Crisis Negotiator.
This is the second fatal police-involved shooting in the southern Interior in the past week. A man was shot and killed by police in Tappen on Jan. 7 after an interaction with officers.
