Albertans haven’t been made to feel very welcome in the province lately but the tourism industry would like to see British Columbians be more accommodating.
Monica Dickinson from Tourism Kamloops says their marketing efforts this season have been different than in years past as the promote the city as a tourism destination.
“Our sights have really be set on British Columbians and activating our local market to visit Kamloops,” she said on the NL Morning News. “That’s not to say that other Canadians are choosing to find their way here and into the Kamloops area.”
CEO Beverley DeSantis previously told NL News that Albertans continue to come in droves to the Kamloops area as B.C. eased restrictions on inter-provincial travel when it moved to Phase 3 of its restart plan.
“Yes, Albertans are finding their way to Kamloops and I’m hopeful that our community welcomes them with open arms, in the same mind frame, hoping they bring their travel manners along with them so that our businesses are able to operate safely,” Dickinson added, noting that the influx of visitors is an indication of pent up demand after people were in lock down for five months.
And she says any tourism dollars coming into Kamloops at this point will make a difference to the industry as restrictions keep international visitors away from Canada.
