A Kamloops city councillor says he is excited to see the city well represented at various government associations in Canada.
Arjun Singh says its because the most successful communities tend to have good relationships at all levels of government – Indigenous, Provincial, and Federal.
“You know we are lucky in Kamloops because we are represented regionally, provincially and nationally that can really help us as a community to have our council members you know plugged in at different associations in the country so, I think that’s really a positive thing for Kamloops,” he said on the NL Morning News.
Singh was recently elected to the board of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities after seven years with the Union of BC Municipalities, including one year as President. Fellow councillor Bill Sarai is a director on the Southern Interior Local Government Association board while Sadie Hunter recently was elected to a seat at the UBCM executive table.
“It is a real benefit and you know as an example, a big benefit of FCM’s work is the Community Works Funding we get which is $2 to 3 million a year into our community,” Singh noted, saying this kind of representation puts Kamloops on the map nationally, while helping it stay plugged in to the issues.
