One day after the NDP unveiled its cabinet, the 28-member BC Liberal caucus was sworn in in a virtual ceremony.
Peter Milobar is returning for a second term in Victoria after first being elected in Kamloops-North Thompson in 2017, while Todd Stone in Kamloops-South Thompson and Jackie Tegart in Fraser-Nicola return for their third terms.
“It is an honour to once again have the opportunity to represent the people of Kamloops-North Thompson as their MLA,” said Milobar.
“I look forward to continuing to hold the government to account, to ensuring that it looks out for the needs of all British Columbians, and most importantly, to serving my constituents during this difficult time.”
Added Stone, “The COVID-19 pandemic has changed so much about daily life in B.C., including the way the legislature operates, however it has not changed my commitment to the people of Kamloops. It is an honour that Kamloopsians have put their trust in me for a third time and I will continue to work hard to represent them in the legislature.”
Following the ceremony, Interim Liberal Leader Shirley Bond says her 28 member caucus will hold the NDP to account over their promises and COVID recovery approaches.
“British Columbians are facing a crisis like no other in our recent memory. Parents are scared, seniors are lonely, small businesses are struggling, and frustration is mounting,” she said. “This is a critical time for British Columbia, and a strong Official Opposition is going to be necessary in the coming months and years.”
The Legislature is set to sit for a short session beginning with a throne speech on Dec. 7. The Liberals will also announce its shadow cabinet in the coming days.
