
The city of Kamloops says a member of its staff has tested positive for COVID-19.
Its unclear who tested positive but Community and Protective Services Director Byron McCorkell says this person is self-isolating at home with support from local public health teams.
“Interior Health Authority will undertake contact tracing, but we can confirm that the employee had no contact with the public during the course of their work for the City,” he said in a statement.
“We are also following our established safety protocols related to workplace exposure and cleaning, as the well-being of our employees our community remains our highest priority.”
McCorkell says no further details will be released by the City to ensure that confidentiality and personal privacy rights are maintained.
This is the second known city staffer to have tested positive for COVID-19. Its after Civic Facilities Manager Jeff Putnam announced on social media that he tested positive for the virus in Sept. 2020.
According to an update from the BC Centre for Disease Control, there were a record 161 COVID-19 cases in the Kamloops local health area between Jan. 31 and Feb. 6.
The Kamloops local health area includes the city of Kamloops and the communities of Little Fort, Barriere, Sun Peaks, Chase, Westwold, Adams Lake, Anglemont, Savona, and Logan Lake.
