B.C. health officials say 75 per cent of all adults in the province have gotten at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
There have been just under 3.9-million doses administered across the province, 497,932 of which have been second doses. When you factor in people over the age of 12, 73.1 per cent of people have gotten a COVID-19 vaccine dose.
Since yesterday, another 70,478 vaccines were administered, 54,370 of which were second doses.
“Right now, invitations for second doses are starting at eight weeks, with appointments bookings in most locations two to three weeks later,” Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said, in a statement. “The federal government has also confirmed a significant additional shipment of Moderna later this month. This is good news, and our team, led by Dr. Penny Ballem, is working to incorporate that into our vaccination plans.”
“Whether you have a Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca vaccine, there will be a dose available for you when it is your turn.”
There were another 180 new cases reported today, 39 of which were in Interior Health. Elsewhere, there were 107 cases in Fraser Health, 13 on Vancouver Island, 11 in Vancouver Coastal Health, and 10 in Northern Health.
Active cases have dropped again to 1,880 with 162 people in hospital, 45 in intensive care. All of those number are down from yesterday’s update. There was one new COVID-19 related death reported taking the total of 1,730 people.
This all comes as the province is set to announce a move to Step 2 of its COVID Restart Plan next week. More details will be coming on Monday.
Yesterday, Dr. Bonnie Henry said COVID-19 will be nearly entirely wiped out by September if vaccine uptake continues to be high and people limit their contacts to 70 per cent of normal.
“As long as we increase our contacts in a slow and measured way, register and get fully vaccinated, and continue to use our layers of protection, we can confidently move forward with BC’s Restart plan,” the statement added.
“What we have seen is that getting fully immunized with your first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccine is making the difference, helping to dramatically slow the spread in our communities.”
There are now 142,526 people who have recovered from COVID-19, about 97 per cent of the total of 146,176 cases in British Columbia.
