Another wildfire has erupted to the northwest of Kamloops.
The BC Wildfire Service says the so-called East Meadows Plateau Fire is about 3 hectares in size, and was first reported sometime early Wednesday afternoon.
It’s burning about 20 kilometers north of the city, with the smoke clearly visible from downtown.
At this point, the wildfire service says it’s not clear how the fire got started.
Numerous personnel and aircraft are now involved in trying to fight the blaze.
So far, no structure are in danger, and no evacuation notifications have been issued.
The East Meadows Plateau Fire is not far from where the Watching Creek Fire broke out late last month. That fire is now under control.
The Wildfire danger is ranked at high to extreme across much of the lower third of the province, with the wildfire service reporting more than 100 active fires — including roughly 20 in the last two days.
